Barbara Jo (BJ) Agnew Brillard is an architect who found her passion for our industry through the construction and contracting side. She currently works for locally for Fluor, a company based out of Greenville, SC. She has previously worked for Flintco, LRK and Hord Architects.
BJ’s path to our industry was a bit “round about”. Growing up she wanted to be a dentist. During summer breaks, BJ would help her mother at the office where her mother as a commercial interior designer. Ironically, this experience was not what provided the inspiration for her to become an architect. BJ actually told her mother she’d never be an Architect. Ultimately, BJ went to Auburn University to study Electrical Engineering. During her time at AU, BJ would do art projects in the lobby of her dormitory and she always had numerous fellow students ask why she wasn't utilizing her artistic skills. BJ would simply reply “Because I'm good at math and science”. An architecture student encouraged her to give the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture a try and the rest is history. BJ is now a licensed Architect.
Outside of work cross stitch needle work is what keeps her sanity in check, as well as refereeing soccer, doing arts and crafts with her two boys, cooking and traveling whenever possible.
